As we head towards Autumn, the weather is turning cooler and many people are now starting to switch on their central heating or fire to take that chill off in the evenings. Annual Gas Servicing is so important and whilst many of our customers are now starting to call us to book their annual boiler and gas fire service, there are many others that won't have their appliances serviced at all. We have visited customers who haven't had their boiler or gas fire serviced for a number of years, and this poses many dangers.
Gas Appliances such as Boilers, Gas Fires, and Gas Cookers need to be serviced annually. This is to ensure that firstly and most importantly, they are safe, but also that they're working as efficiently as they can be.
So, what’s involved?
A comprehensive check, performed by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, who will assess the basic safety of the gas appliance. As part of the assessment, the Gas Safe Registered Engineer will need to take the appliance apart to fully inspect and clean it.
During the inspection, the engineer will:
- Check the overall physical condition of the appliance
- Check the installation and pipework to make sure that it meets safety and industry standards
- Check all Vents and Flues, looking for deterioration or obstruction
Your Gas Safe Registered Engineer will also carry out performance tests using a gas analyser ensuring that any remedial action is taken, if necessary.
The risk of not having your gas appliances checked annually is that, without regular checks and maintenance, they could become in danger of leaking carbon monoxide poison – a deadly gas that you cannot see, taste or smell.
At Harris Heating, all our engineers are Gas Safe Registered and fully qualified to undertake any gas work in your home.
