If you look after your Boiler, ensuring that it's well maintained, it should last around 15 years. Having your Boiler serviced annually by a qualified Gas Safe Registered Engineer can help to ensure that your Boiler works as efficiently as possible, extending its lifespan to the maximum, however, at some point, your boiler will need replacing and here are some tell-tale signs that it does...
If your Boiler does need replacing, it's unlikely to be energy efficient and will, therefore, cost you more, but more importantly, it could be unsafe and a danger to you and your family.
1. Your Boiler is making noises
If your Boiler is making loud or unusual sounding noises then it often means that something is not working properly. It doesn't necessarily mean your Boiler needs replacing, it could just be a straightforward repair or it may need a new part, but if your Boiler is making noises, it's very important that you have it checked as soon as possible by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.
2. You notice your fuel bills have increased
If you have noticed your fuel bills seem to be going up over a period of time, this could be down to your Boiler. It could just mean that you need to switch energy supplier, but it could also mean that your Boiler could be working harder and using more energy, which is costing you more money!
Switching to an energy efficient Boiler could save you as much as 30% on your energy bills, so if it is your Boiler, it may be time to invest in a new one!
3. Your Boiler keeps breaking down
If you find yourself regularly calling a Heating Engineer out to your Boiler for repair, it may be time to think about replacing it! Your Heating Engineer may have already suggested this to you and if you are spending money on regularly repairing an old Boiler, investing in a new energy efficient Boiler may be a smart decision! This will not only avoid you paying costly repair bills but will also save you up to 30% on your energy bills.
4. The energy efficient rating of your Boiler is below an 'A'
Modern Boilers are rated on a scale of A-G. A is the most efficient at more than 90%, whereas a G-rated Boiler is less than 70%. Switching from a G-rated Boiler to an A-rated Boiler could save you hundreds of pounds
5. Your Boiler is more than 15 years old
Most Boilers will last around 15 years and can often last longer if well maintained. However, if your boiler is older than 15 years and you are having continuous problems with it, you may want to consider a replacement. It can often be more costly to keep repairing an old boiler in the long run than replacing it with a new energy efficient boiler.
